Synopsis
As Christmas eve approached in 2021, the "forbidden objects" of democracy faded away from three prestigious Hong Kong universities. The shadow of Big Brother's hand then fell upon the fourth university. "No Brightness in the City" revolves around the consistent observations of "someone" each time she returns to her alma mater, the City University of Hong Kong. This visual diary began on Christmas Day and concluded after three months. Yet, "someone" made the choice not to inscribe the pivotal moments into the diary.

Director’s bio
In 2019, Chan Cheuk-sze concluded her undergraduate studies at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Currently, she is pursuing a master's program at the Graduate Institute of Trans-disciplinary Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts. Chan aspires to nurture an enduring passion for the realm of moving images, a fervor that may pause but shall never find its conclusion.
