One of the most stylistically confident directorial debuts by a young Hongkonger filmmaker in years, Fly Me to the Moon is an immigrant story of tenacity and self-interrogation. Produced and mentored by New Wave key figure Stanley Kwan (Rouge), the film tells the story of a little girl Tsz-yuen, who arrives from Hunan to join his father in Hong Kong. Divided into a triptych structure à la Moonlight, the film tracks Tsz-yuen’s coming of age as her drug-addicted father runs into multiple conflicts with the law and as Hong Kong subtly changes from 1997 to 2017. Shot with static slice-of-life long takes and edited into fragmented vignettes like memories by William Chang Suk-ping (In the Mood for Love), the film questions what it means to be a Hongkonger, whether it is by nationality, language, or geographical location. Taiwanese TV idol Wu Kang-ren delivers a powerhouse multilingual performance as the troubled patriarch.

《但願人長久》是近年新一代香港導演首部劇情長片之中最具風格的作品之一。《但》片橫跨二十年，講述小女孩子圓於1997年從湖南移民到香港，其後與患上毒癮的父親離離合合，見證着香港在主權移交後的絲絲變化。本片由《胭脂扣》名導關錦鵬監製，用上類似《月亮喜歡藍》的三幕式結構，亦大膽使用生活化的靜態長鏡頭，並且由王家衛御用剪接師張叔平剪成回憶的碎片，成功捕捉成長的神髓與移民所需的堅持。本片是導演祝紫嫣的本自傳故事，質問如何定義香港人的身份，是據國籍、語言，或身在地嗎？另外，最近在華語世界爆紅的台灣小生兼金馬影帝吳慷仁以三語強勢飾演父親一角。

Director’s bio
Sasha Chuk majored in Chinese literature and Sociology at the University of Hong Kong. Her short film “The Dropout of Her” (2019) won Best Cinematography at the 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival. Her next short film, “Plain Sailing” (2022) won the Gold Award at the 27th ifva Awards (Asian Open Category) and was also selected in the 2022 Osaka Asian Film Festival. In 2020, she won the 6th First Film Initiative by Create Hong Kong with her screenplay Fly Me to the Moon, an adaptation from her novel. Fly Me to The Moon is her feature directorial debut, which earned her a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination at the 60th Golden Horse Awards.

祝紫嫣畢業於香港大學文學院，主修中國文學及社會學。2019年執導短片《林同學退學了》奪得第十三屆鮮浪潮國際短片節「最佳攝影」獎。2022年執導短片《凪》更榮獲第27屆 ifva 獨立短片及影像媒體節公開組「金獎」以及參展2022年大阪亞洲電影節。2020年憑劇本《但願人長久》贏得第六屆 FFFI 首部劇情電影計劃，劇本改編自她的同名短篇小說。《但願人長久》為她首部劇情長片之作。
